Author, Speaker and Financial Advisor Manisha Thakor Named Director of Wealth Strategies for Women

Nationally known author, speaker and women’s wealth advocate Manisha Thakor, CFA, has joined Buckingham and The BAM ALLIANCE as Director of Wealth Strategies for Women.

Thakor is the latest advisor to join the firm’s lineup of high-profile thought leaders. Her new role reinforces the organization’s commitment to providing women investors with wealth planning and asset management services that are customized to meet their unique needs and delivered in a way where real financial problems are comprehensively addressed with real solutions.

In her role, Thakor will leverage her energies and experience to lead the firm’s effort in addressing the perspectives of women investors and the role they play in safeguarding their own financial futures and that of their families. She is the co-author of two critically acclaimed personal finance books, My Own Two Feet: A Modern Girl’s Guide to Personal Finance and Get Financially Naked: How to Talk Money with Your Honey. Her financial advice has been featured in a wide range of national media outlets, including CNBC, CNN, PBS, NPR, The Today Show, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Real Simple, Essence, Glamour and others. Thakor comes to Buckingham and The BAM ALLIANCE with more than 20 years of experience working in the financial services industry. She began her career on the institutional side of the business, serving as a financial analyst, portfolio manager and client relations executive at private, multi-billion dollar money management firms. Most recently, she founded and then ran her own Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firm, MoneyZen Wealth Management. Thakor earned her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College in 1992 and her MBA from Harvard Business School in 1997. She is also a CFA charterholder.

“I’m giddily excited to join Buckingham and The BAM ALLIANCE,” says Thakor. “This team understands that women want to be meaningfully served in a clear, concise and transparent manner. That kind of authentic offering is a natural fit for the advisors of Buckingham.”

CEO Adam Birenbaum says Thakor’s experience and reach are a perfect fit for Buckingham and The BAM ALLIANCE. “For far too long, the broader Wall Street and financial services industry have overlooked the important role women play in our country’s financial future.

And while they’ve overlooked it, they’ve failed to see that, based on recent studies, women control 39 percent of the nation’s investable assets, not just as decision influencers but as decision makers. Having Manisha’s voice in our chorus furthers our mission of providing the best financial education to investors throughout the United States.”

Thakor believes the time has come for the financial services industry to behave in a way that welcomes, honors and addresses women’s unique contributions and financial needs. “Advisors who work as fiduciaries to utilize a globally diversified, low-cost and evidence-based investment approach are a key element to providing holistic financial planning services consistent with the promise of true wealth management,” she says.

Birenbaum says Thakor’s presence is proof that the firm’s strategy to elevate its outreach to all types of investors is working. “We are truly becoming a destination—for thought leaders, advisors, advisory firms and investors—and we’re just getting started. Manisha has that rare combination of talent and advocacy that we think will make a real difference in the lives of women investors. We feel fortunate to have her on our team.”
