Doug has extensive experience in the financial planning and tax industries. Prior to joining Buckingham Strategic Wealth, Doug founded Madison Wealth Advisors, a registered investment advisor (RIA) firm serving the Kansas City area. He served as the firm’s managing member since its inception in 1999. He has practiced as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for 40 years and operated his own CPA firm from 1994 to 2019. During his time in the tax industry, he focused on personal income, business income, and fiduciary and estate taxes. Today, he combines his robust knowledge of tax-related matters when building financial plans for clients. He also utilizes this experience when guiding clients through the tax complexities involved in divorce planning, business transitions and charitable giving.
Doug graduated from the University of Missouri in 1980, with a Bachelor of Science in business administration with an emphasis in accounting, and he became a CPA the following year. He obtained his Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation in 2006. He has also earned the Registered Life Planner (RLP) designation from the Kinder Institute of Life Planning program.
A Missouri native, Doug grew up in Brookfield, which is about two hours northeast of Kansas City. Upon graduating from the University of Missouri in Columbia, he moved to the Kansas City area and has lived there since 1981. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his family, which includes his wife, Sara, and his daughter, Madison. He met his wife while on a scuba diving boat excursion in the Bahamas, and scuba diving is one of their passions.
