About Kelly
As a wealth advisor, Kelly works closely with her clients to help them identify and achieve lifelong goals, not only around money, but about all aspects of their lives. Specializing in work with divorcees, widows and professionals with high, specialized compensation. Her ideal client relationship is with someone who values a lifelong partnership, and the give and take of great conversations around life goals.
Kelly’s start in education allowed her to maximize those skills to make a difference in the lives of her clients. Good financial planning starts with listening, educating and then motivating people to action. All of these she mastered in her teaching profession before moving to wealth management.
Kelly states that statistically we are much more likely to meet our goals when they are stated and written down. The reality is that most people don’t take the time to do this unless they are encouraged. Kelly feels taking this step with clients, year after year, increases the likelihood they will meet their goals. In meetings, she frequently has clients who say “Oh, I didn’t know that” when brought up to speed by the other partner. Regular meetings with clients help keep plans, and sometimes communication, on track for couples – and provides a sounding board for single clients, being the person holding them accountable to their goals.
Kelly served as president of The Planned Approach for 19 years before the firm joined Buckingham in 2021. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor of social work and earned a master of arts in special education from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Kelly also holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional designation.
Outside of the office Kelly works with local nonprofit Operation Breakthrough on various events and projects the organization offers throughout the year. Her most fulfilling work is partnering with their executive team to build an endowment of $20 million. A Kansas City native, Kelly and her two teenagers enjoy riding horses, bikes and spending time at the lake. An avid yogi, she starts most days with a hot yoga class and long walk with her puppy. She loves a good concert and will see Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney in concert every time they’re in town!
