About Michael

Michael Kitces is a passionate advocate for evolving, expanding, and institutionalizing what excellence in financial planning can be. As the head of planning strategy at Buckingham Strategic Wealth, LLC and Buckingham Strategic Partners, LLC (collectively Buckingham Wealth Partners), Michael leverages his industry knowledge and thought leadership to shape strategic priorities and focus for the organization and is instrumental in leading research that fuels the firm’s evidence-based financial planning strategies. Buckingham Wealth Partners’ advisors and clients, alike, benefit from the depth and breadth of Michael’s wealth planning and retirement research work as he applies key strategies and techniques to our advisor training, development and client experience efforts.

Michael’s industry blog for financial advisors, Nerd’s Eye View at Kitces.com, reaches over 250,000 readers monthly, he’s been invited to keynote more than 600 financial advisor conferences over the past 10 years, and he is the host of the popular Financial Advisor Success podcast - all dedicated to advancing knowledge in financial planning. Notably, for the advisor community in 2019 alone, Michael and his team collectively provided more than 20,000 hours of CFP continuing education credits.

Beyond his website, Michael is an active writer and editor across the industry and has been featured in numerous publications. He has co-authored “The Annuity Advisor” with John Olsen, and “Tools & Techniques of Retirement Income Planning” with Steve Leimberg and others.

In addition, Michael is a co-founder of the XY Planning Network, AdvicePay, New Planner Recruiting, fpPathfinder, and FA BeanCounters, along with the Financial Planning Association’s NexGen community, and the former Practitioner Editor of the Journal of Financial Planning.

Michael is one of the 2010 recipients of the Financial Planning Association’s “Heart of Financial Planning” awards for his dedication to advancing the financial planning profession. He also serves on numerous boards and committees for the Financial Planning Association, the Investments and Wealth Institute and the Society of Financial Services Professionals, at both the local and national levels.
